The Red Cross only collects monetary aid for people in the Gulf, so lots of individuals are collecting supplies that they will transport themselves. But that can be dangerous.

Truckers are having a hard time in the Gulf. Chuck Brown is from Arlington, Texas and he just got back.

“It’s pretty bad, I’ve never seen anything like that,” Brown said.

He also said the area is hard to drive through.

“Lots and lots of buses going out and military convoys going in,” Brown said.

This is his experience in the Gulf: “Trees, lots of broken down cars, billboards, cell phones act up cause all the towers are down, lots of drivers that aren’t used to driving just getting out of town,” Brown said.

But all of this won’t stop Blaine Bailey.

“We know we can get actual supplies to actual people who need it, because the person is from the area,” Bailey said.

He is collecting supplies at his office and is getting a friend to drive them to Biloxi. His business is building a brand new warehouse. Right now it’s under construction and it’s empty. That makes it a great place to keep the supplies the truck will pick up. He says they are prepared for the trip.

“There’s nowhere to buy any food, there’s nowhere to buy the things you need,” Bailey said.

This is the same thing that truck driver Chuck Brown went through on his recent trip. He brought his own food and water, and slept in his truck. And of course, a problem we all have, gas prices.

Brown says all the volunteers planning to head down there should be as careful as possible.

You can bring supplies to Blaine Bailey at his office located at Tranter Grey Media Group at 4075 Evans to Locke Road. He is collecting things like bath items, medical supplies and even dog food.
