DUNWOODY, Ga. (AP) -- A $1,800 puppy has been returned to a pet store after it was stolen, but no arrests have been made in the case.

WSB-TV reports that someone walked into the Dunwoody Petland store with the puppy in a backpack. Authorities say the person said someone had left the dog with him, and it was in good health when returned to the store.

Authorities say employees had allowed a man to hold the 2-pound Maltese puppy on Jan. 22 after he said he planned to buy a dog as a gift. He then dashed out of the store and into a waiting car.

Sales Manager Geoff Campbell said two store employees ran after the man but were unable to catch him.
