One car dealership in Augusta is rolling out the welcome mat for those who worked at Walker Acura in New Orleans.

Most of us know Cotton Flynn as the voice and face of Acura of Augusta. But to two New Orleans evacuees, they know him as a lifesaver.

“I met Cotton Flynn, adorable gentleman, he is just absolutely adorable,” said Samantha Cole.

Samantha Cole and her family had to evacuate quickly from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina left much of the city underwater.

“We had to walk through the water through a nearby park, water up to our chest about and climb the interstate,” Cole said.

Samantha left the city behind and her job at Walker Acura in New Orleans. Acura of Augusta General Manager Cotton Flynn stepped in.

“Actually they are asking every dealer to pitch in and help these folks,” Flynn said.

Acura of Augusta got the word out through the May Park shelter. It seemed like a perfect fit, from one Acura dealer to another.

“They were just so warm and welcome to help me in any and every way that they could,” Cole said.

Along with Samantha, Richard Dawson was just hired by Acura of Augusta as well.

“For Acura to the mall of Augusta everybody’s been taking care of us,” Dawson said.

Samantha was selling on average 15-18 cars per month in New Orleans. She wants to bring that knowledge and experience to Augusta as she makes this her permanent home.

“I’m not familiar with the market, but I know in New Orleans I was pushin’ them, so Augusta here I come,” Cole said.

Wal-Mart has also been instrumental in hiring hurricane evacuees.
