Some of the hurricane victims who’ve been able to leave the Gulf Coast are now searching for a place to go.
The Red Cross in Augusta says they will do everything they can to take care of victims. They have been at Warren Baptist Church since Tuesday, and are currently accepting victims. This is good news for Patricia Johnson’s family, who are here from New Orleans.
“They came with just the clothes on their back. They are in dire need of clothes, shoes and personal items,” she said.
Right now, there are 16 people at the shelter, and it can hold 150. To get in touch with the Augusta Red Cross, call 724-8481.
Warren Baptist Church is looking for donations to help the people living at the shelter there. They are currently accepting the following items: packaged foods like chips, grits, oatmeal, cookies, cereal, soda, canned fruit, paper goods, blankets, pillows and toiletries (such as toilet paper, deodorant, feminine products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, wash cloths and towels). Warren Baptist Church is located at 3203 Washington Road in Augusta and the phone number is 706-860-1586.
