It’s hot outside, but what levels would you go to to stay cool? As news 12 reports, popsicles may be to blame for shots fired in an Aiken County neighborhood.

They’re a favorite summertime treat. And police says this Beech Island home off Laurie Drive was a popular stop to get one.

“Apparently all the kids in the neighborhood know that the homeowner is in the practice of giving out popsicles to the kids around the neighborhood,” said Michael Frank, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman.

Monday night around 8pm four teenagers came to the door and asked for some Popsicles. Police say when these nice neighbors ran out of popsicles Monday night, shots were fired.

After forcing themselves inside, the teens shot two bullets into the air, ran outside and fired another shot.

“I thought it was fireworks,” said Adeline Bostick.

The noise woke neighbor Adeline Bostick up from a nap. What worries Adeline is the young people’s real motive. Investigators suspect the teens asked for popsicles simply to get inside. Adeline hopes the gunman is caught soon.

“I hope justice gets served. I want everyone to be safe where I live,” Adeline said.

Teens who loose their cool now face serious charges.

The teens were last seen running down Laurie Street. The sheriff’s department says they may have dealt with one of the suspects in the past.
