AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- What do the movies "Life Of Pi," "The Avengers" and "Prometheus" have in common besides making millions in the box office and being nominated for the Academy Awards? The answer is North Augusta native 21-year-old Steven Benjamin. His dreams of working in film has become true.

"Computers and that was his niche," said Benjamin's former teacher, Galan Potter.

Potter met Benjamin when she taught at North Augusta and says he's a hard student to forget.

"He was just a unique kid. I mean a lot of personality. Very friendly, very out going. Very funny and entertaining," Potter said.

Benjamin's career in Hollywood only started a year ago. He's already worked on three movies as a visual effects artists and all three are up for Oscars. But before he worked on films for the big screen, he worked for his teacher, Mrs. Potter.

"He built a website for me and we still have it. It's hooked to my Facebook page," Potter said.

Steven's younger brother, Colton Benjamin, says he remembers his brother always liking computers, but says he also liked ...

"Playing games 24/7. Can I play? No! Want to come down and eat? No!" said Colton of conversations with his older brother.

Benjamin was able to call in for a phone interview from California and says he remembers those days, but adds he was doing more than just playing video games.

"I was actually studying it. It's kind of like he was bothering my study time, but you know probably 30 minutes after that I'd actually go play with him," he said.

While Benjamin has a lot of fans in the neighborhood he grew up in, his biggest fan is his mother, Monica Benjamin.

"To see this unfold has just been amazing," she said.
