AUGUSTA---Moviegoers pushed The Blind Side to number one over the weekend. Quinton Aaron could have celebrated anywhere, but he decided to come home to reach out to young people.

"Never would have made it," sang Quinton Aaron. "Never could have made it without you."

Quinton praised the heavens after landing a role on the big screen.

"It was crazy," said Quinton. "I flipped out."

He grew up singing in the church, but it was in the audition room that he hit a high note.

"When I finished those scenes...tears running down the eyes," said Quinton describing the casting director's reaction. "One of the casting directors came and gave me a hug. I was like 'wow'."

The Blind Side drew in $100 million in 10 days. But it's the numbers back here at home that got Quinton's attention.

The graduating class at his former high school Glenn Hills is shrinking. What started out as more than 400 students is now less than 200.

"I think that they believe that because they have it so bad that they can't rise above that," said Glenn Hills librarian Queen Smith. "But the truth is they can."

"For them to see that Quinton could come out of this neighborhood and could succeed as well as he has," said Queen, " I just thought that was really amazing."

Quinton's story is one of survival.

"Things weren't great for me before getting this role," says Quinton. "I lost my mom."

His mother died as he struggled as a young actor in a down economy.

"Don't ever think that what you're going through right now is going to be what you're going through later on in life," said Quinton.

"I would have lost it all," sang Quinton about the goodness of a higher power. "But now I see how you were there for me."

Quinton says he's glad to be home. We understand he made a surprise appearance at a basketball game at his high school.

Quinton says The Blind Side had the highest opening weekend for any sports movie. There is even Oscar buzz surrounding the film. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
