Former Augusta resident stars in new movie

AUGUSTA, Ga. --- Before he was seen on the big screen, Quinton Aaron spent his days in front of a much smaller audience: singing tenor in the chorus at Glenn Hills High School.

"He liked to sing," said Sherry Puryear, his chorus instructor. "He liked to sing, but he was very shy."

Sherry Puryear remembers Quinton when he first moved to Augusta. They soon bonded and have stayed close. She found out about his new role from his Facebook page.

"I saw the little trailer," Puryear said. "I didn't really realize the magnitude of it until I actually saw the trailer on TV and was like wow, that's big."

His nearly six foot, six inch frame made him a shoe in for the football team, but while both coaches and players tried their best to recruit him, he never set foot on the field, saying he just wasn't an athlete.

After moving down south from New York, it was right here at his grandfather's house where Quinton spent a lot of his time...playing with his younger brother and working on his music.

Quinton's grandfather Rev. William Mack says despite the success, his grandson is still the same guy who used to sing in church on Sundays.

"He's just a sweet young man. just a gentle young man, just a big teddy bear," Mack said. "Big guy, but so humble."

And it's this success that former classmates say is so inspirational.

"I'm very proud of him," said Travis Carter, who graduated with Quinton. "Especially to see someone from our community doing something positive."

Mack says that even though Quinton only spent three years here in high school, he calls Augusta home. His chorus teacher says she plans to invite him back to Glenn Hills High School to speak to students there.
