AUGUSTA---Of course, folks across the Augusta-area watched the memorial service too. We didn't find any big organized viewing parties, but we found lots of people gathering around a tv here or there around town.

Some wanted to see the spectacle, some wanted to remember, but they all wanted to watch history.

Memorial services aren't normally on TV at Wild Wing Cafe, but today is different. It's Michael Jackson's memorial. For Laurie Snipes, it's a part of her childhood.

"I grew up watching Michael Jackson, when he was younger. It's very nostalgic for me," she said.

And it's something Laurie wanted her kids to see a bit of.

"The kids are amazed at all the videos they've seen recently," she said.

"I think it's important to pass that legacy on," she said.

Judy Adams spent some time in the music industry with her husband Johnny Adams. She says Michael did more than you even realize.

"It's so important to remember him cause he broke down so many racial barriers," Judy said.

Over at Augusta State, students stop by to take a look for a minute or two. They may be too young to remember Michael in his heyday, but that doesn't mean he's a stranger to them.

"I loved his music, loved his dance. He's the king of pop," Tracy Fields said.

C.J. Hooke-Powell is just trying to soak it all in.

"He was like the Elvis of our generation," he said.

A big star indeed. And C.J. is proof of how far Michael's music reached.

"I grew up in Jamaica and listened to Michael Jackson music," he said.

He was a man who influenced many and today across the world, and here in Augusta, his fans said goodbye.

RH that was an ignorant comment...if you are so tired of hearing his name why did you bother to open up the link to this story..did you ask yourself that question before you posted that ridiculous comment. This man is and will always be the greatest entertainer of all times. He touched many people with his music and humility. We need more people like him in the world.

I am so sick and tired of Michael Jackson on every news channel I could scream. We can't get enough world news because of the media hype on Jackson! Everytime I see the name "Michael Jackson" I immediately change channels!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

For a family (the parents) so driven by the 'showbiz spotlight', I thought the service was appropriate. I watched, expecting some circus-type event, but it wasn't. They respectfully paid final respects to MJ, and at the same time did celebrate his life, fulfilling the millions of fans' expectations. Whether intentional or not, they ended the event on the very personal note that they lost a Son, Brother and Father. You just can't criticize that. I feel for the family, especially the children.
