AUGUSTA, Ga.---The James Brown Arena complex is under new direction. The new 7 member Augusta Coliseum Authority board had their first meeting Tuesday. They learned the summer should be eventful.
The James Brown Arena is charting new territory. Diana Ball was out vying for seats Tuesday.
"I'm getting Gaither tickets," said Diana.
She has called Augusta home for years.
"30 plus years," said Diana. "And I haven't been to this particular place in 20 plus years."
"The center didn't bring in what we are looking for," said Diana.
The arena is now welcoming a new Augusta Coliseum Authority board.
"The old coliseum authority was headed in the right direction," said Cedric Johnson who is the new chairman. "I really think they have turned things around and basically what we want to try to do is build off of where they had started going in the right direction."
The complex is posting $250,000 better than the budgeted bottom line.
"We did a great job the first week we were in office didn't we," joked board member Brad Usry. "Actually, that just goes to show you Global Spectrum knows what they are doing, and we just need to stay out of their way and promote them and change the perception in the community."
Roderick Hilton is planning to spend the next two weekends at the complex.
"Yes sir," said Roderick. "Got one [ticket] for this weekend and one for next weekend."
Roderick is going to next week's Soulja Boy show, but he is singing the same tune as Diana.
"The last time I came up here," said Roderick. "I think there was some wrestling going on, and I was a small kid I think."
A diverse crowd is feeling good about the James Brown arena again.
"I know it's gonna be a dynamic show," said Diana. "I know there are going to be a lot of wonderful people here. It's going to be great."
Thomas and Friends, Musiq Soul-child, Anthony Hamilton, Chrisette Michelle, and Boney James will be in town over the weekend. Tickets are all under $60 dollars.
