ATLANTA (AP) -- AirTran Airways says it will increase its first checked bag fee to $20.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the increase from $15 to $20 takes effect Sept. 1 for coach reservations made Aug. 17 or later.

Other airlines are increasing fees as well.

Atlanta-based Delta charges $25 for a first checked bag on domestic flights, or $23 if the fee is paid online.

For a second checked bag, Delta charges $35, or $32 when paid online.

It is typical Just recently Airline profits we in the Millions. This comes from all of those ridiculous fees for the non existing service. The fe does not guarantee you will get your luggage they just charged you for. This fee only guarantees a fatter pocket for the Airlines. Try to get a refund for their lack of service. You just about have to give up a kidney or some vital part jsut to prove you did the right thing.

Why don't they just go up on the ticket price instead of charging for a the 1st checked bag? I can understand paying for extra or overweight but come on. Here's a thought: If you don't check a bag .... BONUS - you get a discount! Nah this would make too much sense to the greedy airlines with their sorry service! Happy I don't fly as much as I used to any longer.
