AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A wild fight in downtown Augusta that ends with shots being fired was all caught on camera. It happened more than a week ago, and the Sheriff's Office says it didn't know about it until today.
The video shows eight or more men fighting two others. While the men laid on the ground bracing from a barrage of punches and kicks, two women start swinging as well.
"I don't like this at all it's making me uncomfortable," said downtown visitor Vivian Nguyen.
"Is that for real right now?" said downtown visitor Aleesha Mincey.
"Can you all prevent this sort of thing from happening? Yes, we can with more of a police presence in certain areas. We can't be everywhere," said RCSO PIO Lt. Calvin Chew.
The knock-down, drag-out street brawl happened right on the doorstep of the woman who's working to attract more business downtown. It's right outside Downtown Development Authority President Margaret Woodard's office.
"It's a hard video to watch. We are trying so hard to revitalize downtown. We have to come up with a solution to limit this type of behavior," she said.
The two men and woman who were outnumbered kept fighting. At one point, the fight spilled out into the streets.
"The parents should be more in control of their kids and knowing where they are," said downtown visitor Ruthie Lewis.
The fight goes on for two minutes and ends with gunfire.
"As you saw, there are several people trying to break up the fight. They should also be calling for police as well," Chew said.
The building owners plan to hire more security for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. It's all an effort to try and keep the peace.
CLARIFICATION: While this fight took place on the sidewalk in front of the New Moon Cafe, the cafe was closed at the time of the fight. To WRDW's knowledge, no patrons or employees of the New Moon Cafe were involved.
