AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Have you ever wanted to send someone else in your place to court? The agent working for Regency Mall did and now there's a warrant for his arrest.
Mark Axler, the agent for the group that owns Regency Mall, is in hot water for skipping court on Thursday.
"The only person who can excuse him from coming to court is me," said Magistrate Court Judge Allen.
He was given six different tickets for violations at the abandoned property. Instead of showing up for court, he sent new Property Manager James Mccannen.
"I have not done that. Whatever he told you is incorrect. A warrant for failure to appear will be issued," Allen said.
However, property owners are finally doing some cleaning up around Regency Mall.
"There is work in progress to bring the property into compliance. We're satisfied with the progress so far," said Planning and Development Inspector Larry Lariscy.
"They were suppose to go inside and clean out the flammable stuff inside. It's still an eyesore on the outside," said Commissioner Marion Williams.
So far, so good, but they're not done yet. The building makeover it needs will cost owners between $700,00 to $900,000. The property sits in Commissioner Williams' super district.
"Businesses are dying around that area because of the sore eye. Somebody has to make sure they do what they need to do," Williams said.
Lariscy inspects the property twice a month to make sure they're making progress.
"They're cleaning out some of the debris from the vandalism that's taken place inside the property. They have a plan of action to secure the building and make some roof repairs," he said.
"It's a sore eye and it needs to be dealt with. The judge did the right thing," Williams said.
