Victim catches thief breaking into car at Aiken recreation center

AIKEN, S.C. -- Aiken Public Safety officers are investigating a car break-in involving a thief with a gun in the Odell Weeks Activities Center parking lot Thursday night.

Officers say the victim caught the suspect in the act of breaking into their car and saw the gun.

The victim says the suspect jumped into another car and headed south on Whiskey Road.

Investigators say the recreation center was crowded at the time of the incident.

Authorities have named a suspect but are waiting for warrants before releasing the name.
