NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW) -- A man was sent to the hospital over the weekend after he says he was beaten during a holdup by a man wearing a clown mask.

The victim told deputies he and another man were walking along Ridge Road in North Augusta early Saturday morning when a dark gray Isuzu Rodeo pulled up behind them on the side of the road. That's when the victim says a man wearing a clown mask got out of the SUV, presented a chrome pistol and demanded money.

The victim tried to run away but says he was tackled by the man wearing the clown mask. A struggle for the victim's wallet ensued.

While this was happening, three more people got out of the car and one of them held the second victim at gunpoint while the two others punched and kicked him, according to the incident report.

The suspects were able to get away with money before getting back in the car and leaving the scene, according to the incident report.
