RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- The suspect wanted in connection to an apartment shooting is now in custody.
James Clifton Tate Jr., 31, was arrested just before 9 p.m. Wednesday in Villa Rica, Ga., by the Georgia State Patrol.
Deputies responded to Apartment G on 1600 Caldwell Drive around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and found 35-year-old Bertha Lopez had been shot. Lopez was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center.
Tate was taken to the Richmond County Jail and is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
To correct a story we broadcast and posted on Wednesday night, the person arrested for aggravated assault at the Pinnacle Place Apartments was James Clifton Tate, age 31, not James Donnell Tate or Benjamin Harman. WRDW's broadcast was based on incorrect information received from the Richmond County Sheriff's Department. We regret the error.
