AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Six months later, the questions remain for the family of an SRS security guard who was shot and killed behind his home.

Since that day, investigators and his family have been searching for answers about what happened.

"Not a day goes by I don't think about it," said his widow, Brenda Jackson. "Not a day goes by I don't think about him and what we would be doing."

On Dec. 8, 2012, her husband, 56-year-old Hester Jackson, was murdered.

"It was just a dark day," Brenda Jackson said. "Just a dark, dark day and that day lasted, it seemed, for the next month."

Investigators say Hester Jackson had just come home from picking up dinner. When he came around the corner of the house, he came face to face with burglars who shot and killed him.

"They took away our hopes and our dreams together," Brenda Jackson said. "They took away my best friend."

Six months later, shards of glass and a boarded-up door still show the signs of what happened that day, but for his family, why it happened and who did it are questions that still remain unanswered.

A few weeks after his murder, investigators and his family took to the streets passing out fliers and looking for answers, but the answers never came.

Since then, the fliers have disappeared, and it's something Brenda Jackson wants to make sure doesn't happen to her husband's memory.

"I don't want anyone to forget," she said. "I don't want anyone to forget his memories or to forget what happened here."

So she's sending out another plea for help to catch the people responsible before it happens to someone else.

"It's my family now that's going through that," she said. "It's his family going through this, and tomorrow, it may be their family if these people are not caught."

The thing that makes it hard is it appears to be random.

The neighbor said they saw two people running from the house after they heard gunshots, but that was really all they had to go on.

The case is still open, and there is a $10,000 reward.
