AIKEN, S.C.--- A 65-year-old woman is in serious condition after being shot Monday afternoon.
The shooting happened on the 600 block of McCormick Street in Aiken around 5:30pm.
The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Marie Jefferson.
Deputies say the suspect is 44-year-old Sharne Breland Rickenbacker.
They found her car parked in a home's driveway off Pinecrest Avenue shortly after the shooting.
Family members who live at the home, where her Mitsubishi was found, say they have never seen the woman in their lives.
Angelica Cook, "She just parked in our yard, I've never seen her a day in my life, ever."
Deputies say a witness gave them a description of the car and that's how they were able to find Rickenbacker.
Cook described the scene outside her home, "I heard yelling and I just came out and when I came out it was like a big [deputy's] gun and I was like 'woah' so I came out with my hands up."
Cook and her family were confused only knowing a woman parked in their driveway was an accused shooter.
As Sharne sits in the patrol, her husband and brother showed up with a lot of questions.
Meanwhile Cook said, "We were on the porch and she asked my momma for a cigarette and I said no you can't, you crazy, you just brought 15 police cars to my house."
We're told Sharne Rickenbacker will be charged with attempted murder and a weapons charge.
65-year-old Marie Jefferson remains in serious condition. Jefferson's family tells us that her son was with her when she was shot.
Investigators are still working to find out the relationship between the victim and suspect. They are not sure of a motive at this time.
Meanwhile, Sharne's brother told News 12 his sister is a mother, recently married, and not an animal.
