Augusta, Ga (WRDW) - It was April Bridges response, after News 12 told her there was a shooting in her neighborhood just blocks away.
"It's a little unnerving," she said.
Just blocks away from where she moved too a week ago.
"I don't think it's the neighborhood so much as the people in the neighborhood and how they act," Bridges told News 12's Patrick Price.
Shots were fired at the corner of Sibley and Walker Street, around 9:30 last night.
A man suffered two gunshot wounds to the leg and stomach. The suspect, 17-yr-old Jamal Olajuwon Boyd, got away on his bike.
"I think it happens way too often," she said.
But in her area of the neighborhood, it's a little different.
"Down here on this end. it's very quiet, you know, I don't feel unsafe, I don't feel worried," said Bridges.
Drive four blocks down and you'll end up where the shots were fired. A little too close for comfort for Bridges.
"I just make sure I'm aware, you know lock the door, lock my car doors, I look at who's around when I leave," she said.
That vigilance is what she says keeps her safe. But there's still that what if.
"You can be anywhere and someone become violent," she told News 12.
She's keeping a close eye on her street, while law enforcement does their part to find who fired those shots.
"The police patrols are nice, the neighborhood watch is nice, I don't think you can ever really prevent it," she said.
