AIKEN, S.C. -- SLED is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Aiken.

This happened around 1:58 a.m. at the parking lot of the Sunoco at York Street and Rutland Drive in Aiken.

Aiken Department of Public Safety officials say an officer shot at a burglar after he tried to run over the officer.

Captain David Turno with ADPS says the man was driving a stolen Ford F-150 taken from an earlier burglary and theft when he pulled into the Sunoco, put the car in reverse and drove toward the officer.

Turno says the officer attempted to take cover but his path was blocked and that's when he fired one shot at the burglar.

Officials say the burglar then drove off into Crosland Drive and Yates Street, where he jumped and ran from the truck.

State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting as standard protocol and Investigators are working to identify the driver of the stolen truck.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers of the Midlands at (888) CRIME-SC. Callers can remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward between $50 to $1,000.
