AUGUSTA, Ga. -- News 12 has just learned a deputy sheriff from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office has been terminated.
Sean Street, 37, was terminated after a hearing on Thursday at the Sheriff's Office Review Board.
This comes after the investigation found Street had a list of names, addresses and Social Security numbers that they believe he was going to send to someone else to file false income tax returns.
Another employee, whose name has not been released, had been linked with the investigation and was previously suspended from work. He is cleared to work at this time.
Here is the news release:
"An investigation initiated by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the termination of a deputy sheriff. Sean Street, 37, an employee of four years, was terminated today after a hearing of the Sheriff’s Office Review Board.
The investigation revealed that Street had compiled a list of names, addresses, and social security numbers of individuals that he had come in contact with over a period of time.
It is believed that the names were to be used by another individual to file false income tax returns.
We are working this case with the Internal Revenue Service to see if any false returns have been filed from the list.
A second employee who had been on suspension with pay during the investigation has been cleared and has returned to work.
The investigation is ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed at this time."
