Prosperity police officer charged with distributing marijuana

NEWBERRY, S.C. - News 12 has learned a Prosperity police officer was arrested on two counts of marijuana distribution and misconduct in office.
James Michael Smithson, 44, is being held at the Richland County Detention Center.
The Newberry County Sheriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement Division investigated this case, which will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.
Smithson's bond hearing was scheduled for Wednesday.
