SARDIS, Ga. (WRDW) -- New information has surfaced about the former Sardis police officer who officials say was shot and killed during a break-in at the Police Department on Monday.

Waynesboro Police Chief Augustus Palmer says investigators now believe Dwayne Burke was also linked to three attempted burglaries over the weekend.

A resident was inside her home at the time of one of the incidents and confronted the intruder before she says he ran away. The woman told investigators the man who tried to break in was Burke.

Chief Palmer says they are still trying to speak with the residents of the other homes, but do believe Burke was responsible for all the the incidents.
