AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A Paine College student is accused of having a gun in his dorm room.

School public safety officers arrested Tobias Veal Saturday and charged him with having a weapon on school property.

According to the incident report, Veal and his ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Clark, were having an argument at the dorm. At first, Veal said she pointed a gun at him when he opened the door to confront her. Investigators say he later recanted that statement.

A resident adviser at the dorm became aware of the situation and called campus security. They arrived and questioned Veal about having a Smith and Wesson 9-mm pistol. Investigators say at first Veal wouldn't let them in his dorm room, but the RA was able to use a master key to get in. Officers say he willingly gave up the weapon when asked.

He was taken to the Public Safety Office and then booked into the Richmond County Jail.

Paine College Vice President Brandon Brown says Veal has been expelled for violating the school's weapons policy.
