AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The suspect in a fatal shooting on Camille Street Wednesday morning has been arrested.
Ronnie Lee Berrian, 28, has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Russell Boyd and Berrian allegedly got into a fight, which is when Berrian got out his firearm. Boyd tried to run away, but investigators say Berrian chased after him and shot him in the street.
Boyd was pronounced dead at 9:10 a.m. The 66-year-old had at least one gunshot wound in his torso. His body will be sent to the GBI Lab in Augusta on Thursday for an autopsy.
Neighbor Betty Palmer was shocked to learn someone was killed just feet from her home.
"Been there 52 years, never heard never seen nothing like this before on this street," she said. "And when I heard two shots, I came out and the man was lying in the street."
News 12 spoke to the victim's sister. Samantha Boyd told News 12 he was well known in the area, she said, "I'm quite sure he was probably here with a friend or talking to someone he knows or maybe even collecting his money from grass that he's already cut."
She claims he owns a beauty salon in Wrens and cuts grass on the side.
This is Richmond County’s 23rd murder for the year.
