LOUISVILLE, Ga. (WRDW) -- It was a scary sight on the sidewalk by Curtis Mitchell's house early Sunday morning.
"I just got home, and it was just chaos. I don't know what was going on," Mitchell said.
He had been at work that night, but came home to this.
"There was a lot of police and ambulance out here. People hollering, screaming. You can't really tell what's going on," he remembered.
What Mitchell did not know was that two people had been shot. He saw one of them on the ground just feet away from his house.
"It's just a sad scene. All grouped around one person just laying on his back, blood everywhere," he described.
Investigators say it was 23-year-old Ken Quarterman Jr., who had been shot in the head. A second victim, Charles Lewis Brown III, was wounded when bullets grazed his head. The shooting happened shortly after midnight just yards away from Club Apollo.
"It's in a high-crime area, so obviously, I won't say the club caused problems, but it's in a very high-crime area," explained District Attorney Hayward Altman.
Investigators say Club Apollo has had its fair share of trouble. Back in 2011, News 12 reported on another shooting that happened after a fight inside the club.
After that one, officers temporarily shut the place down. Then in January of the following year, the city revoked its beer and wine license. A few months later, the club's license was reinstated with changes to security, traffic flow and noise.
The club was open for business this past Saturday when those shots rang out.
"I just don't know what this world is coming to -- shootings, clubs," Mitchell said.
"It is our job and duty to search until we find a conclusion to find the truth of what happened on that night," Altman said.
Investigators say they'll be looking into whether the club had any part leading up to the shooting, but right now, finding the shooter is the priority.
So far, no one is in custody. They're asking for any information the community may have that could help lead them to the killer.
Some neighbors say there was also a block party going on that night. Also, the second victim is related to Quarterman and was standing next him when they were shot.
