LANGLEY, S.C. -- Lois Holley is thankful to be alive, but she's still shaken after a gunman broke into her home, holding Holley and her daughter hostage Saturday night.

"All of a sudden, I heard this tremendous boom. And I heard her [my daughter] scream, and it was my back door being kicked open," she said.

Investigators say Kevin Claeys was on the run after shooting Oscar Sanchez-Espinoza in the face on Gray Street, just a few houses down.

When the suspect forced his way into the neighbor's home, she said her daughter saw his weapon and began screaming to her that he had a gun. Reality then set in quickly for Holley, but so did the adrenaline.

"By the time I got to the kitchen, he was on his knees in front of me. I told him, I said, 'You're going out,' she was dialing 911 and screaming at the same time," Holley said.

Deputies were outside roping off the streets, looking for the shooter when she went to get her gun.

"When I got it, he grabbed the barrel of my gun from me and snatched it down on the floor. He was on his knees down on the floor begging me," she said.

He was begging her to let him stay since he thought the cops were going to kill him.

But Holley says, "I said, 'You can either go out the door, or you're going out on the stretcher, one way or the another.'"

He eventually did leave her house -- in a police car.

"I said, 'Well you won't go that way, fine,' and I went around the table to get a knife. He point the gun at me and said, 'Don't go around there,' and I said, 'You're going out my door, you know, you're coming out.'"

And though her actions seem heroic, she says it was all just a mother's love.

"Somebody said, 'You are really mean to be so little,' and I said, 'No, I'm not mean, you know, that was my child.' And I just had to get between him and her."
