AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Two shootings, only miles apart, separated by just months.
"The incidents are similar, in that it's happening in a certain way, and how it's happening," said Lt. Calvin Chew of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
After Richmond County deputies watched surveillance video of the late-night shooting, they launched an official investigation into who these men were and who fired the shots.
"Investigators are still talking to certain people, people that were at the party, and hopefully, from that, we can gather enough information to get suspects."
One News 12 viewer came forward and gave her account of a very similar shooting months prior to the one this weekend.
"When i saw and started hearing the gunshots, I ran and got my phone and called 911," said Laurie Holbrook, who lives off Spirit Creek Road.
And now another one says her neighborhood experiences the same thing "all of the time."
"I can tell you that all shootings are taken seriously by the Sheriff's Office, every case is investigated, the same way," Chew said.
Holbrook said, "There's so much crime here, I can't see that they would have time to investigate everything."
News 12 spoke to other neighbors on Spirit Creek Road. They wouldn't go on camera, but they did say if something isn't done, the shootings will continue.
And they say it's bound to get worse.
"Either it gets better or you move," Holbrook said.
Chew says speaking up is key in solving crimes like these.
"Not only is there scientific evidence, but we also need the help from the public and witnesses," Chew said.
And if you're keeping your eyes open, you'll be sure to see more flashing lights patrolling the area.
