New charges for man accused of killing Aiken officer

Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012

AIKEN, S.C. -- Additional charges have been handed down for the man accused of killing an Aiken officer in January.

Joshua Jones, 27, is now facing indictments for failure to stop for blue lights, unlawful carrying of a pistol, larceny and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He's also got charges for incidents at the Aiken County Jail.

Jones was previously charged with the murder of Master Cpl. Sandy Rogers. Rogers was shot and killed after responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle in Aiken.

Rogers spent 27 years fighting crime in Aiken. She joined the Aiken Department of Public Safety in 1984.

Rogers' death came a month after the death of Master Public Safety Officer Scott Richardson. News 12 recently learned the Aiken County solicitor plans on seeking the death penalty against Stephon Carter, the man accused of pulling the trigger.

Jones is also facing murder charges across the river in Richmond County for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.
