AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Investigators are having a hard time solving Richmond County's first murder of the year. The shooting happened Tuesday morning at Club Fiesco on Peach Orchard Road.
Deputies say 21-year-old Edward Yancey died after being hit by a stray bullet in the parking lot.
"It was a rapid succession. It was pow, pow, pow," said neighbor Doc Kennedy.
"I saw the ambulance over there. I didn't know anybody got killed," said neighbor Rodney Crenshaw.
Witnesses say there was a fight inside that spilled outside. Authorities don't believe Yancey was involved.
"Once you pulled that trigger, it's done. You've ended somebody's life and affected so many others' lives," Kennedy said.
For several months last year, Yancey worked as a delivery driver at Pizza Hut. His manager says he was a good kid and great employee.
"We're sad. People's weapon of choice today is just to shoot somebody and get it over with," Kennedy said.
Neighbors said they hope this tragedy is not in vain and that they hope club owners will make changes.
"I imagine they would probably have more policemen over there. It would help people to leave instead of hanging around outside," Crenshaw said.
"You can't just make the police department accountable for it. When you're a business owner, you have to be accountable for a measure of security yourself," Kennedy said.
