Friday, Oct. 5, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A mother is in jail and her child is in the care of a relative after an unusual situation at an Augusta hotel.

Richmond County deputies say Jennifer Ann Thompson claimed her son, Jeremiah, had been kidnapped by his uncle. Investigators say Thompson told them she left the child with a woman named Sydnie but was unable to give anymore information about Sydnie.

Upon further questioning, deputies say Thompson admitted to taking two Norcos, which are used to relieve severe pain. Investigators were able to track down Sydnie at the Travel Lodge hotel. The Sheriff's Office says the child was in her care, healthy and unharmed. Deputies say Sydnie told them Thompson asked her to watch the child while she went to smoke crack.

Investigators arrested Thompson and took her to the Richmond County Jail. She is charged with deprivation of a minor. Deputies called DFACS, who took custody of the child and released him to his grandmother.
