Man arrested on drug charges after chase, crash

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- An arrest has been made in an incident that started with a traffic stop, turned into a chase and ended with a crash on June 14.

An officer pulled Cedric Derell Davenport over because he was driving without headlights on Walton Way. During the traffic stop, the officer noticed Davenport smelled like marijuana.

Davenport allegedly drove off and led the officer on a chase before crashing into a concrete wall on Walker Street. Officers say he then jumped out of the car and ran, holding a fillet knife.

Investigators later found drugs in his car.

Davenport was arrested Wednesday and charged with:

  • Fleeing/attempting to elude officer
  • Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Driving without a license
  • No insurance coverage
  • Driving without headlights
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to stop upon hitting fixture
