Man arrested on assault, drug charges in Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. -- The Aiken Department of Public Safety made an arrest after an assault on Friday morning.
The victim claimed she was hit with a bottle by 23-year-old Fred Hazen. Hazen fled the scene before officers arrived.
Officers were told Hazen was staying at Steeplechase Apartments. Hazen's roommate let them in the apartment to search for Hazen, who had fled from the apartment. When officers came into the apartment, they found illegal drugs.
Hazen eventually returned to the apartment and was arrested. He is charged with assault and battery, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana within a half mile of a park.
The victim was taken to the hospital for her injuries.
