AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- Aiken Public Safety investigators have arrested a man in connection with an assault and battery incident.
Derek Randolph Brooks is accident in an incident that happened the morning of July 12 on Newberry Street in Aiken.
Investigators say a young woman was walking from downtown Aiken when she was struck in the head at the corner of Newberry Street and Park Avenue.
Brooks has been charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct .
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, the Second Circuit Solicitor’s Office, North Augusta Public Safety, the State Law Enforcement Division and the ATF RAGE Task Force assisted with the arrest.
Officers say this investigation is still ongoing and anyone with more information about this crime is asked to call Crimestoppers of the Midlands: (888) CRIME‐SC.
Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward between $50 and $1,000.
