RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- There are still a lot of unanswered questions. A local leader is shocked and saddened by the news.
"Sad. All I can say is it's sad," said next-door neighbor Heyward Williams.
It's a tragedy that spanned two crime scenes and left three family members dead, and it has people who knew the Joneses wondering why something like this would happen to people like them.
"Oh my goodness, just thinking of all the things that they don't get to enjoy now," Carol Rountree said sadly.
Richmond County Assistant Superintendent Carol Rountree used to teach Roosevelt Jones back in the 60s when he was in high school. Jones grew up to be a teacher himself, working at Paine College and then at Tutt Middle School.
"Of course, you'd be proud of a former student who has decided to make a career in education. You kind of follow that. Support that and give them encouragement," Rountree said.
Encouragement is what their neighborhood needs after investigators found a second crime scene on Pinnacle Place Drive Tuesday night.
"In the investigation it was determined both scenes were in fact related," Sheriff Richard Roundtree explained in a press conference.
Property records show the home belongs to Roosevelt Jones.
Williams has lived next door for 27 years. He remembers the last time he spoke with Jones.
"It was last week, and he was telling me about his daughter getting married. I believe it's this Saturday," he said.
"For all the moments you look forward to that bring a family joy, then you think about they will now be marred by the memory of something tragic," Rountree said.
Sheriff Roundtree says they do have a person of interest in custody, but no charges have been filed.
"What's in the thinking process of whoever was involved?" Rountree asked. "And I'm so sorry for everybody involved. Obviously that person has such tragedy in their own lives."
