LINCOLNTON, Ga. (WRDW) -- Two brothers are behind bars after shots were fired after a party in Lincolnton late Friday night.

"It was just like a normal night," said Austin Dockery.

It seemed like every other Friday night for Dockery when he met with friends at the Hardee's in Lincolnton.

"We looked down the street and there was just a ton of headlights," he explained. "That's not normal at around 12 o'clock in the morning."

Dockery says he knew something was about to happen.

"Everybody just rushed over to Huddle House, and actually on the corner there where the parking spots are is where the fight happened," Dockery said.

It started near the Thomas Lane American Legion Post where after a party, there was a commotion and shots were fired.

It ended at a Hardee's, across the street from a Huddle House, almost 8 miles away with officials making two arrests.

"I was a little nervous because like they said, there was a shooting," Dockery said. "And I was kind of worried if maybe someone was going to possibly shoot [here]."

"I called up to the [police department] and told them, 'Hey you might need to get down here -- something's not right.'" he explained.

Officials say they received many calls like Dockery's, which led to both the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and the Lincolnton City Police Department responding to the scene.

Investigators say they found one suspect trying to get rid of the gun -- something Dockery also saw.

"The guy was standing about right here," he explained, gesturing toward bushes in the front parking lot of Hardee's. "And, I'm guessing what he did when he saw the cop, he took [the gun] in a bag and threw it into the bush. And when it did, it fell off and hit the pavement and it made a noise and the cop looked over."

That's what led to the arrest of twin brothers Deonte Battle and Deondre Battle.

Dockery says he's glad the situation didn't end much worse.

"It's a small town, everybody knows everybody," he said. "And normally, stuff like this doesn't happen. And when it does, everybody kind of knows something's not right."

Deonte Battle is charged with discharging a pistol near a highway, along with several other weapons charges.

Both men are 18 years old and have been charged with possession of alcohol by a person under 21.
