Judge sentences woman in killing with high-heeled shoe

Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A woman is going to be in jail for a while for killing her boyfriend with a high-heeled shoe.

Just minutes ago, a judge sentenced Thelma Carter to six years behind bars for killing Robert Higdon. She must also attend a substance abuse program while in jail.

She was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for the killing on Milledgeville Road back on Aug. 1, 2011.

Prosecutors said Higdon hit Carter in the chest and put a cigarette butt on her. At the time of his death, Hidgon's blood alcohol level was .048. Carter hit Higdon in the head with the thick-heeled shoe. Neighbors say he was outside after the fight.

The Richmond County Coroner's Office says the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, but pre-existing medical conditions played a part in his death.
