AUGUSTA, Ga. -- An Augusta man is recovering in the hospital after investigators say his neighbor stabbed him eight times Tuesday morning.
It all happened at Wilcox Place Apartments near Wheeler Road and Bobby Jones Expressway.
The victim says three men who live next door attacked him. During the assault, he says one of the men stabbed him eight times with a fingernail file.
Tanner Kanab lives next door. He says a crime scene is pretty unusual in their neighborhood.
"It's pretty quiet. Nothing really ever happens out here. It's pretty secluded. Nobody even knows if their neighbors are home most of the time," he said.
Investigators say the attack came after a late-night party.
"I saw some stuff going on last night, but I figured it was just them getting home, they usually leave pretty early in the morning and get back around 11," Kanab said.
More than 30 people live in the two small apartments. Investigators say one of the apartments has 16 beds.
"They usually keep to themselves. I don't think they speak too good English, there was one guy here that spoke really good English, but he moved to New York," Kanab said.
During the investigation, none of the witnesses or suspects could produce any documents proving they were from the U.S. Investigators say it will be up to INS to decide whether or not they are living here illegally.
Deputies say the case is still under investigation, but no one is being charged at this time.
