Grovetown mayor pro tem indicted on bribery charges

GROVETOWN, Ga. -- Grovetown's mayor pro tem is in hot water after an indictment was handed down.
Leland J. "Sonny" McDowell is facing bribery allegations. The United States Attorney's Office is charging McDowell and 56-year-old James Potts from Montgomery, Ala.
Investigators say McDowell bribed Potts for a state contract involving fingerprint scan systems.
If convicted, the two could face up to 10 years in prison and a quarter-million dollars in fines.
"Yes, I was indicted. I've pleaded not guilty and I have all intentions of defending the charges," McDowell said to News 12.
