HEPHZIBAH, Ga. -- A grand jury formally indicted a man on Wednesday on accusations he strangled and killed his girlfriend back in July.

Todd Goff is charged with one count of malice murder and one count of felony murder in connection to Tiffany Salter's death. Goff is accused of strangling and killing his girlfriend and then dragging her into the woods behind their home and digging a hole.

Wednesday's decision brings the victim's family one step closer to gaining some closure.

The victim's father, John Salter, says, "I'm still very emotional. Not many hours that go by that I don't talk about my daughter to somebody."

He says the hardest part is walking past Tiffany's urn every day and knowing he will never see her face again.

"I'm getting used to her sitting on my coffee table. It's not where I want to see her," he said.

Her father never got to give his daughter a bracelet that now sits beside her urn, but he's hoping the indictment is a small step towards another gift: justice for Tiffany.

"I want him to get the death penalty, but I guess a more fitting punishment would be for him to sit and think about this for the rest of his life," John said.

It's still up to Goff to decide how he will plea, but Tiffany's father says he will be at every court case.

"He's going to have to look at me and at her family and know the hurt he's caused so many people," he said.

Tiffany's family says she and Goff had a history of domestic violence, something that is unfortunately not uncommon in Georgia.

Aimee Hall, executive director of Safe Homes of Augusta, says, "Georgia ranks sixth in the nation for the highest rate of women being killed by abusers due to domestic violence."

And since this month is Domestic Violence Awareness month, John is hoping others will learn from Tiffany's story.
