Father robbed, tied up by thief while kids slept inside home

GLOVERVILLE, S.C. (WRDW) -- Four o'clock in the morning is not the time most folks go out for a cigarette, but a father of two says when you have babies at home, you're up at all hours of the night.

"As soon as I sat him down with a bottle, I came out and sat down to smoke a cigarette, and I mean, it was almost immediate," said Joshua Reese.

Reese says the unknown thief stole a flat-screen TV, two DVD players and a PlayStation 2 -- all while his two kids were at home.

"He came right here and put a gun on me and said, 'You know what it is,'" he said.

Reese says normally he would have defend himself, but with kids inside, he wasn't going to risk it.

"He came right up on me and when he got right here I stood up and went to turn around and tell him I had kids. He then put the gun to my head and said, 'Don't look at me,'" Reese said.

He says it all happened quickly and figured if he gave the criminal what they wanted it would end, but it didn't.

The crook then grabbed a power cord.

"He wrapped it around my hands and then he wrapped my hands and my ankles down together and just left me there," he said.

The incident report says a deputy saw, "Red marks consistent to being tied up upon victim's wrists and ankle." Investigators still don't have a suspect but say Reese did the right thing.

"If they have you, cooperate," said Capt. Eric Abdullah with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

However, they do suggest hiding first -- if you can.

"If you're hiding, you know, just be as quiet and still as possible, and if they do find you, just cooperate," said Abdullah.

The father of two says he's out of the neighborhood. He says nothing stops criminals in his neighborhood, not even his electrical fence.

"The people around here ... the ones that are trouble ... they know it's an electric fence, they'll grab a hold of it just to see if it will stop them," said Reese.

The father says he's moving his family because the neighborhood has seen more than a dozen similar crimes in the last year and a half.
