Family of teen held at gunpoint offers cash reward for tips

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An armed robber is still on the loose after a weekend robbery.

It happened around 10 Sunday night at Lu Lu's Car Wash on Peach Orchard Road. A 16-year-old student who works there was held at gunpoint, forced to give the robber money. His family is now stepping forward to offer a reward for any tip that leads to an arrest in this case.

16-year-old Jerry Harvey has worked part time at Lu Lu's Car Wash for about a year now. He says, "I worked there because I thought it would be a good head start in my future."

But late Sunday night, he got an unwelcome surprise at work.

"A guy came through the back door and said give me all the money. He demanded all the money with a gun," he said.

Jerry said the robber sneaked in the back door to their chemical room.

"When he came in, I was just like, oh my gosh. I was terrified, didn't know what to do," he said.

Jerry is a hard working kid. He's just a junior in high school, and never thought he'd be put in a situation like this.

"When he said give me the money, and I saw the gun, I immediately started giving him the money," he said.

The man took the money, pushed Jerry to the ground, and took off.

"The guy had on all black. Black mask, black hoodie, black pants, black gloves. He acted like he's done it before," Jerry said.

His dad couldn't believe the news when his son called him.

"He said, 'Daddy, we've been robbed.' The first thing I asked him, was he okay? I'm on my way," he said.

Once the adrenaline died down, and he realized his son was okay, the anger set in.

"My son could've not been here today because of a guy who wanted to rob someone to get a quick little piece of change," he said.

Now, Jerry Sr.'s focus is making sure this guy gets caught, so he doesn't strike again.

"If someone knows who did this, I'm willing to put up a reward to get him off the streets, because you don't play with a firearm," he said.

There are no suspects at this time. The Harvey family is offering a cash reward if you give a tip that leads to an arrest. If you know anything, call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
