Deputies remove slaying suspect from court hearing

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- A man accused of killing one police officer and wounding another in Athens was removed from a court hearing by sheriff's deputies after he made repeated outbursts.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that deputies removed suspect Jamie Hood from Monday's court hearing after he accused the officer who was wounded in the shootings of police brutality.
Hood is charged with killing police officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian III and wounding Tony Howard in March 2011. He faces the death penalty if convicted.
Monday's court hearing was supposed to address preliminary matters leading to a determination of Hood's mental competency. Superior Court Judge David Sweat gave Hood's attorneys two weeks to gather and provide mental health experts with any documents they believe will assist them in determining Hood's competency.
