Augusta couple safe after home invasion turned kidnapping

Friday, Oct. 12, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Richmond County deputies are investigating a home invasion that turned into a kidnapping early Friday morning.

Deputies got the call around 1 a.m. to go to Woodcrest Apartments on Sibley Road off North Leg Road.

Deputies say a man went into the couple's apartment armed with a gun. He demanded the couple to get in their car and drive to an ATM to get money. They went to three different ATMs before they were able to get money from the last one.

They say the robber told the couple to drive home. Once they arrived home, the couple was left unharmed and the man fled on foot with the money.

Deputies are currently searching for a man they describe as a black male, between 25 and 30 years old and about 6 feet tall. The couple told deputies he was wearing a white and black jacket with dark-colored pants. He was also wearing a black mask.
