Friday, Dec. 27, 2013

EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office says one man was stabbed after a large fight on the lawn of St. Edwards Catholic Church on Edgefield Road in Murphy Estates.

The Sheriff's Office says the fight between two men escalated into a large brawl. When deputies arrived, the scene cleared, and the victim, who suffered a stab wound to the lower back, was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center by ambulance.

News 12 noticed an aluminum baseball bat and a leather belt behind crime-scene tape. An Edgefield County investigator took pictures of those items as well as the bed of a Ford truck, which also appeared to be part of the crime-scene.

Deputies would not say if the wound was life-threatening. However, the Sheriff's Office tells News 12 another related fight erupted in the Aiken County portion of Murphy Estates.

Deputies did not release any possible motives.

Multiple cameras line the facade of the church near where the fight broke out. It's unknown if they were recording or not.
