Coroner: Toddler stabbed to death before accident

APPLING, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Columbia County coroner says the toddler who was found dead following an accident had been stabbed to death.

Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins says 2-year-old Sky Allen died of stab wounds to the neck.

Investigators say her mother, 29-year-old Marina Middlebrooks, was driving Allen in an SUV on Ray Owens Road when she hit a tree head on. Allen was found dead inside of the SUV by crews who responded to the accident.

Middlebrooks was arrested around 2 p.m. Monday and charged with murder and first-degree cruelty to children.

Middlebrooks was taken to the hospital after the accident. According to the incident report, she also had lacerations.
