AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The man accused of shooting and killing his nephew at University Hospital last month has been released on bond.
Officials say 86-year-old Charles Gorrell was released on a court ordered bond Wednesday because of various medical conditions and severely deteriorating health.
Major William Johnson with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office says Gorrell has already been to the hospital for treatment five times since his arrest.
Jail officials say Gorrell was released to his son, who is taking him to a Columbia hospital.
Deputies say Gorrell shot and killed his nephew, 59-year-old Tim Grooms, in October.
Gorrell is expected to be arraigned once he is back in custody.
