AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Two men are on the run after an armed robbery in south Augusta. It happened at Super Wine and Spirits on Deans Bridge Road around 10:30 a.m. Sheriff's deputies and K-9 units surrounded the store as they searched for the suspects.

The owner saw two masked men come in, saw that they had a handgun and was able to quickly escape to his back storeroom.

The thieves got away with a briefcase with a computer in it, but they couldn't crack into the cash register.

"The stuff is all protected by security. Nobody can just come in and just open it," said Joe Adams, who works at Super Wine and Spirits.

Adams came to work just after the robbery, saying, "I didn't even know. I just showed up and saw y'all out here and I said, 'What happened?'"

Customers were just as shocked to hear the news.

"I was sitting at my daughter's house watching 12 o'clock news on 12 and she said, 'Mama! That's up there where we go!'" said Evelyn Frasher, who shops at Super Wine and Spirits.

"Try to rob somebody for a little change, then go to jail for 15 to 20 years? That's stupid, really stupid," Adams said.

Unfortunately, though, Adams says he's no stranger to this sort of thing.

"Long time ago, somebody come and tried to rob me and had a gun fight," he said.

Adams was working at another liquor store at the time when two men came in to rob the store and shot at him, but they weren't expecting him to shoot back.

"I'm not afraid to use a gun. If somebody puts my life in danger, and if I have the opportunity to use my gun, I will use my gun," he said.

It's why Adams now works at a place with top-of-the-line security, but Wednesday's robbery proves you can never be too prepared for the unexpected.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the robbery, but deputies are still looking for the two suspects. They were last seen running down Deans Bridge Road around 10:30 a.m. wearing all-black clothing.

If you have any information about this case, you're asked to call the Sheriff's Office.
