AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An Augusta woman is behind bars after allegedly throwing a pot of boiling water at her husband on Sunday.

Investigators say it all started when 50-year-old Sandra Williams Boutte put a chair in front of the stove, placed a full pot of water on it and blocked the stove with her body, blocking the other people in the home from turning it off.

Witnesses say the victim tried to grab the pot from Boutte, which is when a struggle started.

Witnesses say Boutte went toward the victim with the pot in her hands. Her husband tried calming her down, but that's when Boutte allegedly threw a the pot of boiling water at his head and upper torso. He was able to dodge the pot, but the water struck his left leg, causing significant burns.

When deputies got to the home on Horseshoe Road, they found the victim running water over his left leg, which was severely burned with the skin sloughing off. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Boutte left before deputies got to the scene, but later came back, changed her clothes and allegedly left for Norwood, Ga., where her mother lives. Local authorities were notified, and Boutte was eventually arrested. She is charged with aggravated battery.
