ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Athens-Clarke police were questioning a man suspected of raping a woman after breaking into her Athens apartment.
Police said the man, whose name was not immediately released, faced rape, burglary, obstruction and other charges. He was arrested after being chased on foot through rugged terrain near the apartment complex Monday afternoon.
Police told the Athens Banner-Herald they are unsure how the man got into the woman's home. A police dispatcher who took the 911 phone call reported hearing a woman on the phone plead "don't hurt me."
Officers responding to the call reported seeing the suspect jump from a second-floor window at the apartment and run into woods.
Police said officers responded quickly to the incident because one officer lives in the complex and is courtesy officer for the residents.
